“SOVEREIGN IS A STATE OF MIND”
It’s about having the courage to stick to your own path and not allowing outside forces to deter your journey. We live in a world that often tries to tell you that there are only a few ways to achieve “success” – but success is what you make it.
Sovereign represents that inexplicable feeling you have about your passion in life. It’s the universe telling you that it’s already yours.
SOMETHING’S MISSING IN KC
Kansas City and the Midwest are seen as “fly over” states – often being skipped by major acts – specifically in the Hip-Hop and R&B world.
Kansas City doesn’t offer any music festival cultivated with black people or Hip-Hop culture in mind.
Kansas City has a lack of access to resources in the arts and entertainment industry – especially in the black community.
There is little opportunity for local musicians to get the chance to perform in front of their hometown crowds.
WHAT IS THE ANSWER?
GOALS
To provide the black and Hip-Hop culture of Kansas City with a unique and safe experience, intentionally crafted and built to celebrate their interests.
To provide a platform for local musicians to showcase their art and share a stage with major acts in front of their hometown crowd.
To provide educational resources around the industries of music, marketing, and business in the form of panels and workshops.
To highlight and provide a platform for local, black-owned businesses.
MORE THAN MUSIC ~
MORE THAN MUSIC ~
While Sovereign Fest is first and foremost a music festival, we want it to be a complete experience with something to offer for everyone. Amongst things like a sneaker fest, live podcast readings, and a unique DJ Battle, the event will include thoughtfully curated panels on topics like film, marketing, and art with people who have expertise in the industry, like Morgan Cooper – creator of the hit Fresh Prince remake, Bel Air.

SPOTLIGHT ON KANSAS CITY
Our goal is to make sure Sovereign Fest is a platform for local musicians to connect with their city and a potential launch point for them to be seen by a new and larger audience.
WHO’S COMING?
TARGET AUDIENCES
THE HYPEBEAST
The Hypebeast is your friend who always knows what’s happening with the latest fashions and hottest social trends. They always have the freshest kicks and the latest drops. You can catch them every Friday, checking out the newest music releases to make sure they are the first up on the coolest new songs. They like to attend live shows, parties, or anywhere they can flex their latest fit.
tHE ARTSY-FARTSY
This is an eclectic group who is looking for more depth in what they consume – you may find them at the bar or club but they are often looking for events that allow them to connect more directly with their peers. This group is also very active online and considered “in-the-know” when it comes to pop culture and trends but only follow the ones they relate to the most. This group often spends their disposable income on things like art, self-care, and experiences.
THE MUSIC LOVER
The music lover is fueled solely by their love for music – no matter how big or small the artist. They can often be found supporting their local music scene by attending shows and buying merchandise. They love collecting event-exclusive items and collector’s pieces that hold memories and connect the to their favorite musicians.
